Framework

The Fuel Retail IT Maturity Framework

A structured audit built specifically for convenience and fuel retail, not adapted from a generic IT checklist. It tells you where you actually stand, in language your leadership team and your board can both use.

01

Assess

A one- to two-day on-site with your key staff, walking the systems that actually run the business — cybersecurity and risk, infrastructure, POS and forecourt operations, data and reporting, vendor contracts.

02

Score

Every objective is scored 1 to 5: 1 is a manual process with no automation and low data quality, 5 is highly automated, audited, and reconcilable. No score gets inflated to make the report look better.

03

Map

Scores roll up into a roadmap — what to fix first, what it costs, and what moving from a 1 to a 3, or a 3 to a 5, is actually worth in reduced shrink, recovered time, or new revenue.

04

Execute

You take the roadmap to your in-house team, an existing MSP, or bring me in to run it — as a retainer or as scoped projects. The audit stands on its own either way.

Worked example

Fuel inventory monitoring

  • 1 — Manual tank sticking, readings handwritten or texted in.
  • 2 — ATG installed, but reports are pulled manually off a printed tape.
  • 3 — ATG integrated to POS and a hosted monitoring system that auto-polls every site on a set interval and rolls it up into one view.

Every objective in the framework works the same way: a concrete ladder, not an abstract rating.

What gets scored

The framework starts with a core set of objectives and grows as it covers more of the industry. Categories span both home-office and site-level concerns:

  • Cybersecurity & risk
  • Infrastructure & disaster recovery
  • POS & forecourt operations
  • Data & reporting
  • Vendor & contract management

The audit stands alone as a deliverable. What you do with the roadmap after is up to you.
